I’ve said it before, vintage sewing books (the cookbooks of the sewing room) are excellent resources when working with vintage patterns because they’re a treasure trunk of useful information. While many vintage sewing books are really textbooks of sewing and pattern techniques, Coates sewing and dress manual book is a reference guide for not only learning basic sewing and embroidery techniques, but also in working specifically with Pictorial Review patterns.
In any case, vintage sewing books are really fun to look, read and enjoy because techniques were different, phrasings etc…the advertisements and graphics are amazing! A very interesting read.
Start the New Year, the new decade, off by browsing around in this little delight. Hopefully, she’ll inspire you to get inspired and make up a little vintage diddy of your own.
