Mary Mary Quite Contrary

Mary, MaryFrom the expression on the face of little Mary it’s evident that her garden is growing satisfactorily.

This is the third block of the Nursery Rhyme Quilt.

Any combination of bright, colorful embroidery floss may be used to embroider the flowers, but pink, yellow, gold and blue is suggested for the pretty maids in loop stitch.

For the cockle shells, use shades of lavender, in buttonhole stitch, grey for outline stitching the silver bells and dark green for leaves and stems.

The body and antennae of the butterfly are embroidered in outline stitch with brown embroider floss with the outstretched wing in gold and yellow and simple stitches here and there.

The lettering and Mary’s shoes are outline in black.  Here dress and bonnet may be outlined in rose with socks and hair ribbon to match.  Her braids are done in cross stitch in light brown with eyes and eyebrows in brown.

Outline the facial line and arm in cream or flesh color and the sprinkler in light green.

Use a simple stitch in white embroider floss to suggest the scallops of the scallops of the pantaloons with French knots for decoration.

Next weeks block is Tom, Tom, the piper’s son.

Happy embroidering!

I love the nursery rhyme blocks and just discovered them today, however, when I click on Mary, Mary the picture won't enlarge to let me "save target as" like the others. Am I doing something wrong? And how do we save the instructions for each block? Do I have to print them out for each one? Thanks for your help. Sandy

      Hi!

I'm so glad you found the nursery rhymy quilt. It's adorable. I fixed the link to Mary, Mary. I was an issue on my end. Thank you for letting me know. Yes, you'll have to save individual instructions for each block. This is the first quilt I've put on the site (a have several others)-next time, I'll make each instruction set into a .pdf.
