Simplicity Basic Patterns

Simplicity basic patternsSimplicity basic patterns came in all shapes and sizes.

Simplicity 5589, 5653 and 8868 are pictured.  Each pattern include  the Bonus Chart:  How to make a better fitted dress, and two contain the Tissue Chart:  How to Join Skirt to Bodice.  All of these patterns include a jewel neckline.

Use a basic pattern to make a muslin.  The muslin is used to acquire proper fit of the actual garment you’re making.

S5589 & 5653 is a standard dress with sleeve variances.

When purchasing a basic pattern you only need: a bodice front, bodice back, set-in sleeve, skirt front and skirt back.

S5653 and 5589 include facings and tie belts.

While S5653 and 5589 are basic dresses, Simplicity 8868 is an A-line dress.  A-line dresses were extremely popular in the 1960s…still are today actually.

Make  your own basic or purchase one online or at your local fabric store.
