How to Make a Whiteboard

I’ve always wanted a large whiteboard to “get creative”-but they’re so expensive.  So, after a little research this is the new whiteboard I made for the new sewing area I’ m fixing up for myself.

How to Make a Dry Erase Board

Things You’ll Need

Shower Tile Board/Sheet

Framing

Nails

Dry erase markers

Microfiber

LCD/Plasma TV Screen Cleaning Spray

Step One

Measure the area in which you’ll place the white board.

Step Two

Purchase the board.  Solid white tile board (shower board/or Melamine tile (the same material “official” whiteboards are made of)) sheets are sold in 4 by 8 feet sheets (massive) at Home Depot for around $15.  Ask an employee to cut the sheet down to your specs. (it’s free) and bring the residues home with you to use in other projects.  There’s no need to leave the excess pieces because you’ll pay the full price anyway.   If you’re really on the ball-you can have other pieces cut to your specs then and there.

Step Three

Apply framing around the edges of the board. You can really get creative when framing the board, but I used plastic framing I purchased right there at Home Depot for about $4.00.  One piece was large enough to cover the top and bottom of the frame.  Picture framing and molding are also excellent choices.

Step Four

Hang the whiteboard. I used small nails.

Using the White Board

This is important!  Forget about using an eraser to clean the board (or for that matter using moist wipes).

I brought basic dry erase markers and use LCD/Plasma TV Screen Cleaning Spray to clean the board along with a piece of microfiber (as an eraser).  Works like a charm and cleans up in a snap!Whiteboard Accessories
