Always work on a flat surface.- Make tracing marks on wrong side of fabric.
- Test a small piece of the fabric you’re working with to ensure markings are easily removed
- Remove trace markings by washing or erasing BEFORE IRONING
- Always place waxy side of tracing paper next to wrong side of fabric.
- Don’t press too hard.
- Tracing on sheer fabrics isn’t recommended.
- Mark position lines for buttonholes, pockets, trims, etc. on wrong side, then transfer to right side by hand or machine basting.
- Use a serrated tracing wheel to transfer marking through double thickness of most fabrics
- Use a smooth edge tracing wheel to mark stretch, pile or closely woven fabrics.
- Tracing straight lines: use a straight ruler as a guide for the tracing wheel.
- Curved lines: Hand trace or use a curved ruler.
DIRECTIONS FOR SINGLE MATERIAL
1. Lay tracing sheet on table with the colored carbon side up. Place the fabric with the right side up, and the pattern pinned to it, on top of the carbon paper.
2. Guide the tracing wheel so that the carbon markings are transferred to the fabric.
DIRECTIONS FOR DOUBLE MATERIAL
1. Place single sheet of tracing paper with colored side up,
2. Next, place the double layer of fabric next to colored side of tracing paper. Make sure the double fabric is folded face to face.
3. Place another piece of tracing paper, colored side down, with pattern on top of tracing paper.
4. Trace your marking and they will appear on the wrong side of both sides of the double layer of material.
