This charming u-neckline bib front apron with pepper applique is from the early forties. It’s made below the knee length, has a single buttoned back with tie ends at the waist and two deep pockets. It can be made with or without ruffles, bias binding or rick rack.

Vintage Recipe: Delicious Pickles (1904)

One dozen cucumbers, one peck green tomatoes, half a peck ripe tomatoes, one dozen red mango peppers, one dozen green peppers, half a dozen onions, four heads of cabbage, medium size. Chop onions, cabbage, peppers, and tomatoes as fine as possible and salt all together over night.

Next morning, drain well and add one gallon cider vinegar, two pounds brown sugar, half an ounce of turmeric, four spoonfuls of white mustard seed, two tablespoonfuls of white mustard seed, one tea cupful of ground horseradish. Cook slowly half and hour and seal while hot. Half of this will make seven quarts.
