DESIGNERS

Duchess Simonetta Colonna di Cesaró (Italian), Rome, Italy, 10 April 1922. Once married to Italian designer, Alberto Fabiani.

Career: Opened design studio, Rome, 1946-62, 1965; partner/designer, Simonetta et Fabiani, Paris, 1962-65; introduced fragrance Incanto, 1955; traveled in India, 1960s-70s.

An aristocrat by birth, the beautiful Simonetta spent her glamorous youth cavorting with movie stars (Lauren Bacall, Dorothy McGuire and Silvana Mangano) and jetsetters, many of whom she designed for later.

From the 40s to the 70s, her atelier was located in her family’s Rome Palazzo, and her sophisticated and daringly creative fashions were showcased in her Paris boutique on Rue François – coveted by newly fashion-mad consumers and chic jetsetters alike.
