How to please a man with a chafing dish

Chafing Apron“If I wanted to woo and coo and sue for the hand of any man, with his heart and his purse thrown in, I should woo and coo and sue over a chafing dish.  I would guard myself in my sweetest smile and arm myself with my most attractive manner.  Bracing myself for the ordeal.  I would stand before the mirror and try on each and all of my possessions, from the “glad rag,” for state occasions, down to the half-grown negligence that is being so reluctantly discarded.  I would criticize myself as viciously as I would another woman.  Then, after I had made the selection that in my own eyes caused me to seem fairest, I would call in a chafing dish and the man and defy fat to do its worst.

Everyone knows that the royal road to a man’s heart is plum down his throat to and through his stomach.

Every man knows equally well that a woman is at her prettiest when in evening garb.  Everyone knows that a chafing dish is used only at night.  So there is golden opportunity for a woman to exhibit her sweetest charms and her culinary prowess at one and the same time.

The man who will not fall before the combined temptations of a beautiful woman and a seductive chafing dish is simply a helpless proposition form the ground up.

Or he is in love with another woman.

The chafing dish is something of a wizard.  At first glance it seems to be only a shining, nickled affair; in reality it is a more insidious love-awakener than Cupid himself.

For mellowing a man’s heart and satisfying his inner consciousness, it has unlimited and undeniable possibilities. (1903).

Making it authentically vintage:  Design tips for the Chafing Dish Apron

Often made of silk, with stenciling touched with fine embroidery as a favored method of decorating.  For example, a chafing dish (which were always tiny half apron) with a center panel, two sides and a waist band which also served as tie strings.  Onto the center and two side panels would have been stenciled a design, in my example, pink roses with green leaves.  The stenciling is then touched up with outlining, long and short, and satin embroidery stitches.  Possibily ruffles would have adorned the outside trimming of the panels and lace used on the inner sides of the panels.
