How to measure a dog

.........................................................

1.  Groom the dog. Remove the dog’s collar and use a brush to smooth the fur around his neck. Brush the dog’s back from the shoulders to the base of the tail. Smoothing all of the fur allows for an accurate measurement. How to measure a dog

2.  Measure the dog for clothes.

  • Neck:  The dog should stand for the measurement. Holding the end of a tape measure at the base of the dog’s neck measure around the neck as you would for a collar by starting approximately where the collar would fit.
  • Length:  Pull the tape measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail along the dog’s backbone; this is where the collar rests and the tail meets the rear-end.

Use these estimates based on your measurement XXS 7-8 inches, XS 10 inches, SM 12 inches, MED 14 inches, LG 16 inches and XLG 18 inches.

  • Chest:  Measure the chest at the widest point, all the way around.  The widest point of the chest is typically behind the front legs.  If you have a larger dog, you may want to go up a size.

Use these estimates based on your measurement XS 7-10 inches, SM 10-13 inches, MED 12-16 inches, LG 16-20 inches and XLG 19-24 inches.
