How to reupholster chairs
Each chair (solid oak) cost $ 0.97.
I’m reupholstering them-the fast easy way.
PREPARATION
1. Remove the cushions from each chair and set the cushions aside.
HOW-TO
2. Using small circular motions, lightly sand the ninety-seven cent price tags off the chairs using fine sandpaper.
You’ll want to lightly sand any parts of the chair you plan on staining.
Remove the sanded particles with a clean rag.
4. Use a small brush rag to apply the stain to each chair. Use even strokes, moving in one direction.
5. After the stain is applied, remove the stain using a clean colorless rag.
Note: The longer the stain is allowed to sit, the darker the result. I purchased the stain from Habitat for Humanity for .50.
6. Allow the chairs to dry completely.
7. After drying apply, boiled linseed oil to the chairs using a soft rag or soft brittled brush.
Linseed oil naturally cleans, protects, and shines the wood of the chairs.
8. Allow the chairs to dry.
9. While the chairs are drying, remove the old material and cushions from the seat tops.
10. Using a staple gun apply the new cushions and fabric to each seat of the chair.
11. Screw the newly refurbished tops back onto each chair top.
11. Voila! New, fresh, and reupholstered chairs.
AFTER CARE
12. Lightly spray the cushions top with a fabric protectant.
Note: I purchased the fabric from Hancock (less than a yard each sample for only 2.99/yard!). I’ll use the left over fabric to embellish a pillow or make a pillow to accent my new chairs.
